A 195ft long yacht that is solar powered has been created by a luxury boat maker for the first time.

Feadship’s Project 713 is designed by Studio De Voogt giving it an iconic slick look as it glides through the water.

But the luxurious yacht represents the company’s progressive steps to being climate neutral by 2030.

Project 713 was custom built in the Netherlands and as well as carrying solar cells the boat is fitted with diesel-electric propulsion and has the ability to run on non-fossil HVO.

Solar panels located on the yacht have been designed for optimal performance and durability.

These panels make use of the most efficient silicon cells on the market, contributing significantly to the energy efficiency of the yacht producing 24 MWh a year.

The hotel load on the yacht is powered by four generators and a 400 KWh battery.

The wood which is used for the decking was harvested in a sustainable way, being the first Feadship to have FSC-certified plantation teak.

Undergoing a Yacht Environmental Transparency Index assessment report, which measures the life cycle of the boat and the ecological impact of its operational energy.

The report sees Project 713 fall into the to the best in fleet, at 35% below average impact as reported by Luxury Boat News.

The release of this yacht has also had a significant economic impact on the superyacht industry in the Netherlands.
