Ferretti Group’s Ancona shipyard opens new executive offices for its metal superyachts division, enhancing luxury yacht production with cutting-edge design and sustainability.

Ancona, 18th July 2024 – Ferretti Group’s new executive office building for its metal superyachts division marks a significant upgrade to the Ancona shipyard, a key player in the luxury yacht industry and the Group’s multibrand production hub. This facility is where CRN metal super and megayachts, ranging from 60 to 90 meters, are crafted, along with the Custom Line made-to-measure composite range from 30 to 43 meters and the full-aluminium flagship superyachts: Riva Superyacht Division from 50 meters upwards, Custom Line 50 meters, and Pershing 140. The Ancona shipyard represents the pinnacle of yacht design, research, innovation, expertise, and craftsmanship, values that are integral to CRN’s legacy.

Launched in 2016, the project to redevelop Ferretti Group’s entire Ancona Superyacht Yard initially focused on production sheds, followed by administration buildings and hospitality areas. Over the first five years, seven new industrial sheds were constructed, featuring cutting-edge technological, comfort, and energy systems, including heating, cooling, air extraction, solar power, and special production systems.

A pivotal moment in the shipyard’s strategic expansion was the December 2023 opening of the new administration building for Ferretti Group’s metal superyachts division. This multi-level building, covering approximately 4,200 square meters and accommodating over 150 employees, showcases the company’s identity, history, and expertise in an innovative architectural design that merges aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability in a workplace designed for well-being. The design and decor exude elegance and sophistication, providing owners and guests with an immersive experience from the initial meetings through the entire process of creating a pleasure vessel.

Two guiding principles shaped the design: envisioning the shipyard as a CRN megayacht, embodying Italian aesthetics and the bespoke quality of every aspect of a pleasure vessel, and promoting the local area to strengthen ties with the city of Ancona. This resulted in an avant-garde architecture project that seamlessly integrates into its surroundings at the heart of the yacht-building district in Marche’s regional capital, a gateway to the tourist marina and commercial port.

The building’s façade system plays a crucial role in its relationship with the outdoor spaces and its visibility to newcomers in Marche. Detailed studies of the location and its colors, as well as its connection to the surrounding area, inspired an architectural design featuring abstract geometries in steel, extensive glazing, and marine color tones. The materials and colors used amplify the surrounding ecosystem, transforming the offices into a “vertical landscape.”

The administration and hospitality building for Ferretti Group’s metal superyachts division, housing top management, engineering, production departments, and project management teams for all metal super and megayachts, was inaugurated on the site of the old Morini building. This facility was extensively redeveloped from a 1970s concrete structure into a modern three-level building spanning approximately 4,200 square meters. Construction involved demolishing part of the existing structure, refurbishing the interior of the remaining portion, adding two new floors, and a steel superelevation.

The project included meticulous material studies for both interiors and exteriors. Noble materials like steel provided design freedom, with over 300,000 kg of steel and iron structures used, including 18-meter beams and 10-meter steel and concrete pillars. A custom-designed metal grid system with a variable wave curtain effect, 1,000 square meters of glazing, and 800 square meters of wood-effect resin cladding were also incorporated.

Upon entering the building, visitors are greeted by an impressive custom-designed steel staircase with marble finishing that connects the three floors to the grand glass entrance. This complex staircase is entirely detached from the old building and suspended from the new steel structure, highlighting both superb engineering and attention to detail.

Comfort and sustainability were prioritized, with the installation of state-of-the-art heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems, advanced workstations, and video-conference rooms. Generous openings provide natural light and ventilation, enhancing sensory experiences and contributing to psychological and physical well-being. Lighting systems, managed by an astronomical timing system, and separate studies for nighttime lighting and acoustics ensure a comfortable and efficient environment. The entire Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard is powered by renewable energy from its solar panel system and trigeneration plant.

The interior design concept aligns with the architectural approach, reflecting the brand’s identity with total customization and artisanal know-how. The new interior design showcases a bespoke journey through fine craftsmanship, innovation, and functionality, using prestige materials like metals, glass, leather, wood, and marble, with meticulous attention to detail. Two distinct color schemes—warm cognac tones for entrance areas, stairs, and lobby, and air force blue for offices and meeting rooms—were chosen, with materials crafted by local specialists to embody the unique Italian style.

Tradition, innovative research, and detail-oriented craftsmanship characterize the work of Italian artisans, whose furniture and furnishings reflect the boatbuilding culture of Ancona’s storied shipyard. The new executive offices feature custom-designed furniture and furnishings made by local joiners, with Canaletto Rigatino walnut as the base material, complemented by textiles, wallpapers, leather, metal, and resin, creating a dynamic interior decoration. This prestigious new architectural project transfers the shipyard’s 60 years of history and renowned craftsmanship into an elegant and inspiring environment, providing owners and guests with ideas and inspiration while ensuring employees have comfortable and functional workspaces.
