Sanlorenzo, in collaboration with MAN, has unveiled the first yacht equipped with a bi-fuel green methanol propulsion system at Boot Düsseldorf’s Blue Innovation Dock. The system will debut on the 50 X-Space yacht, aiming to reduce navigation emissions by up to 70%.
This initiative is a key component of Sanlorenzo’s “Road to 2030” strategy, which focuses on sustainability and innovation to exceed global and European emissions standards. The ultimate goal is to develop a carbon-neutral yacht by the decade’s end.

Executive Chairman and CEO Cav. Massimo Perotti emphasized the importance of sustainable yachting, stating, “Innovation and sustainability are no longer optional; they are essential for the industry’s future.” The 50 X-Space is poised to set a new benchmark for eco-friendly luxury vessels, benefiting the yachting sector and beyond.
The project is part of the EU-supported LIFE MYSTIC initiative, co-funded under the LIFE program’s “Circular Economy and Quality of Life” line. It involves high-speed MAN diesel engines adapted for a methanol/diesel bi-fuel combination, aiming to achieve significant reductions in CO₂ emissions, fossil fuel consumption, and air pollution.
The initiative also supports advancements in alternative fuel infrastructure, with green methanol already available at over 100 ports globally.
Sanlorenzo has been making strides toward sustainability, notably with the 50Steel superyacht featuring a hydrogen-powered fuel cell system and the hydrogen-powered Bluegame BGH-HSV chase boat. Both innovations underscore Sanlorenzo’s commitment to reducing the maritime industry’s environmental impact.
The company’s efforts align with the EU’s Fit for 55 agenda and IMO targets, aiming for a 70% emissions reduction by 2040. Sanlorenzo continues to lead the industry by combining luxury with cutting-edge sustainability and technological solutions, transforming the future of yachting.
